Safely Navigating Police Interactions for Adults with IDD and their Parents/Guardians
Trusted Parents is excited to be collaborating with "Let's Talk About It: The Autism Center" to bring to you a very important topic of how to help your child/young adult with IDD appropriately interact with Law Enforcement Officers.
You can expect the following:
-
Discussing common misunderstanding or challenges during police encounters
-
Strategies to use to keep your loved one calm and focused during police interactions.
-
Address questions or concerns as a parent/caregiver of a person with IDD
-
Role play scenarios to practice appropriate interaction with law enforcement
-
Allow concerns of parent/guardian to discuss behaviors that their adult child may display while interacting with the police.
-
Discussion around triggers and sensory processing concerns.
Do you have any of the above concerns as a parent/guardian? Then you don't want to miss this very informative Hybrid Parent Focus Group Meeting.
We strongly encourage attending this meeting in-person with your loved one diagnosis with IDD, if you live in Mecklenburg County or surrounding areas. Light refreshments will be provided and a $25 gas card given to the first 5 individuals registering to attend in person.
For those interested in attending, but cannot attend in-person, we are also offering it virtually for those who do not live in Mecklenburg county.
Registration is a MUST regardless of how you plan to attend.
Please indicate if you plan to attend this workshop in person or virtually when registering.
